How to Choose Pedag Insoles: Viva, Sport, Winter & Shoe-Fit Options

Pedag makes several types of insoles and shoe inserts, but the best choice depends on where you need support, how much room is inside the shoe and what you wear the shoes for. This guide compares the main Pedag options available from ShoeMedic in Canada so you can choose without adding unnecessary bulk.

For everyday walking and standing: Pedag Viva

Pedag Viva Leather Orthotic Insoles are the most versatile option in the range. They combine longitudinal arch support, metatarsal support and heel cushioning in a relatively slim leather insole. They work well in casual shoes, many dress shoes and everyday footwear with a removable liner or enough interior space.

Choose Viva when you want structured, full-length support but do not need the thicker cushioning found in a sports insole. Because every shoe fits differently, check that the toe box still has enough room after inserting the insole.

For running, training and hiking: Pedag Viva Sport

Pedag Viva Sport Orthotic Insoles are designed for athletic shoes and active use. They combine arch and metatarsal support with shock-absorbing materials, making them better suited to running, gym training, hiking, golf and long periods on hard surfaces.

Viva Sport takes up more room than an ultra-thin leather insert. It is normally best used after removing the shoe's original removable liner rather than stacking one full-length insole on top of another.

For winter boots: Pedag Pascha

Pedag Pascha Lambskin & Cork Winter Insoles provide natural warmth for cold-weather shoes and boots. The lambskin surface helps retain warmth, while the cork layer separates the foot from a cold outsole.

Before ordering, consider how closely the boot already fits. Winter insoles are thicker than slim leather styles and need sufficient room around the toes and instep.

For tight or low-volume shoes: slim leather insoles

Pedag Leather Insoles with Activated Carbon are a practical choice when you want a fresh leather footbed without substantially changing the fit. Their slim construction suits many dress shoes, loafers and other close-fitting footwear.

They do not provide the same structured support as Viva. Choose them when low bulk, moisture management and odour control are more important than full arch support.

For shoes that feel slightly loose

A loose shoe does not always require a full-length insole. Where the extra space occurs should determine the insert:

How to choose the correct size

  1. Check the European and North American size information on the individual product page.
  2. For full-length insoles, choose the size corresponding to your shoe unless the product instructions say otherwise.
  3. For partial inserts, choose the listed size range that includes your shoe size.
  4. Test the insert indoors before extended wear and make sure your toes are not compressed.
  5. Do not force a thick insert into a shoe that already fits tightly.

Should you remove the original insole?

If the shoe has a removable full-length liner, remove it before installing another full-length Pedag insole unless the footwear has ample depth. Thin leather insoles and partial cushions may sometimes be placed over an existing footbed, provided the shoe remains comfortable and secure.

Frequently asked questions

Which Pedag insole is best for standing all day?

Pedag Viva is a good starting point for everyday shoes, while Viva Sport offers more cushioning for athletic or work-style footwear. The best option also depends on available space and the type of support you find comfortable.

Are Pedag insoles made in Germany?

Many Pedag insoles and inserts in the ShoeMedic collection are made in Germany. Check the individual product description for the specific item.

Can Pedag insoles be moved between shoes?

Most removable Pedag insoles can be transferred between shoes of a similar size and interior shape. Adhesive products such as tongue pads and some heel grips are intended to remain in the shoe where they are installed.

Can an insole fix shoes that are the wrong size?

An insert can improve a slightly loose fit, but it cannot correct a shoe that is substantially too large, too small or the wrong shape for your foot.

Are Pedag insoles a substitute for medical orthotics?

No. Pedag products are retail comfort and support products. If you have persistent pain, an injury, diabetes-related foot concerns or a condition requiring clinical treatment, consult an appropriate healthcare professional.
